“This weekend gave us (me) hope that the Church has not forgotten about us. It equipped us with a reset, re-imagined, refreshed button, especially through the part, Dwelling in the Word.” Rachel Linderoth

“The breakaway weekend was very refreshing to drift away from work and connecting with others spiritually was very uplifting.” Zolani None

“For me, it was like a therapeutic weekend. I am feeling healed, revived and refreshing.” Bulelwa Potwana

“The weekend was fantastic and refreshing. Indeed, it was a healing weekend for the soul, mind and heart. Just to be away from the environment you know, it’s very reviving.” Msawenkosi Ntshongwana

These are the words of appreciation as described by our proponents, of the past weekend’s breakaway to Swellendam.  Rev. Stephen Pedro, MSS (Minister in Synodical Service) for Congregational Witness, and Rev. Danny Bock, chairperson of this Task Team, accompanied the five URCSA proponents.

Rev. Pedro: “The purpose of the weekend was to encourage our proponents who are still waiting to be called to a congregation. They have been legitimated last year November.

“The weekend was also utilized to have a conversation about changing congregational culture (from maintenance to mission) and how they can assist me in my accompaniment of some of the “vacant” URCSA Cape congregations.

“We also met with the scribes of the presbyteries of George, Worcester and Zoar to talk about the fund, managed by Witness Ministry, available to congregations who call a proponent or appoint a proponent for a period of 3 to 6 months, whilst waiting to be called.

“It was indeed a fruitful conversation and the scribes gave us a clearer picture of the situation in their presbyteries and how we can work together.

“Sunday we end the weekend by visiting the URCSA worship services in Swellendam (A) and Zolani-Ashton (X). All in all, it was a blessed weekend.

“Over the weekend the local URCSA and DRC ministers also came to support. Rev. Nico van der Walt (DRC Swellendam) joined us on Friday and dwell with us in the Word, and afterwards encouraged the proponents. Rev. Eugene Vaas (URCSA Swellendam) visited us on Saturday and we shared stories from the ministry with the proponents! What a joy it was to have had them with us as well.”

We praise the Lord for this fruitful weekend.
