“Today’s training was informative; I really learnt a lot. Now I am able to present the aims and objectives of Contextual Bible Study (CBS). To always be encouraging and getting every person’s voice is critical. I have attended CBS before, but today I was motivated and encouraged to achieve practical outcomes,” says Mantho Sehapi, a CYM member who attended a CBS facilitators training workshop on 21 January this year.
The workshop was facilitated with some of the CYM members that were part of the previous CBS workshop in Cradock. This follow-up workshop was held in Port Elizabeth at URCSA KwaZakhele Congregation. The five attendees represented Eastern Cape’s CYM from the presbyteries of Port Elizabeth (KwaZakhele and Seyisi congregations), Uitenhage and Aliwal North.

“The presentation of the workshop was exciting as we went back and forth learning how to facilitate CBS, how to choose a Bible text, how to formulate the CBS questions, and so forth,” says Rev. Babalwa Sifuba who facilitated the workshop. “The facilitators were eager to learn. This was an exciting exercise for all of us.”

“Today was informative. From today I can proudly say I ‘CAN DO’ CBS to a larger group,” says Siyathanda Bola.
Mpho Sehapi says, “Today was great! I have learnt more about how to approach the Bible and had a great time doing it. I learnt about the challenges (the SEE-part) and am going to do it with my mom and in the congregation.”
“Today I have learnt how to speak to people and engage myself with my community. I have learnt that I should also ask myself questions about what I have read from the Bible,” says Siya Hini.
Aviwe Geni says, “This training has taught me to be more flexible and to be confident to do presentations in front of people; to be more confident in talking to them, as I am a shy person. I can now talk to people freely.”
