On the weekend from 21 to 22 April Rev. Stephen Pedro, manager of the Congregational Witness Task Team, facilitated an accompaniment assessment workshop for the church leaders of URCSA Immanuel at Cradock in the Eastern Cape.
The workshop kicked off with a Dwelling in the Word from Psalm 16.
After that the assessment session kicked off with an introductory discussion, “What is going on in our congregation? Where are we as congregation at the moment?” The answer to that was by doing the Missional Board game – focusing on practical examples about where their congregation is at the moment in terms of various congregational aspects.
This session was followed up with the question, “Where would our congregation like to be in five years’ time?” There were insightful contributions from the church leaders about what they would like their congregation’s image to reflect to the outside world, on what relevant issues they would like to focus, and what they would like to be busy with in the congregation.
The workshop was concluded by the session, “What ought to happen now?” During this session they discussed the iceberg metaphor, in other words, submerge under the water and have a look at what is really going on beneath the surface. Do we know what is really important? To help them with this section, they studied Philippians 1 verse 10. They then discussed Do we understand our calling and the real goal of being church and a congregation?
