“This CBS workshop managed to bring together almost all of our Christian Women’s Ministry (CWM) branches for the first time in a very long period. We are indeed thankful for this achievement,” says Sister Kayster, CWM president of the Presbytery of Graaff-Reinet.

On 13 May a Contextual Bible Study (CBS) introduction workshop was presented to the CWM of Graaff-Reinet Presbytery, facilitated by Sister Nosipho Konki, and supported by Rev. Stephen Pedro as co-facilitator.

The workshop took place at URCSA Graaff-Reinet, and nine of the eleven congregations in the presbytery were represented by a total of 22 CWM members.

As a symbol of God’s presence, a CBS candle was lit by Rev. Pedro, whereafter he opened the workshop by a prayer.

The CBS workshop kicked off with Session 1, facilitated by Sister Konki who introduced this session by a summary of what CBS is all about. For this workshop it was decided in advance to attend to the challenge of leadership, which has been identified as a priority by our synod, hence the SEE part of CBS was not done. However, Rev. Pedro explained shortly how the SEE part is done with a group in a congregation.

During Session 2 the group focused on the DISCERNMENT part and read together from Exodus 18. This part was facilitated by Rev. Pedro.

The ACT part will be facilitated with the group at a later stage.

Feedback from one of the attendees was, “CBS was good for me so that I can understand the Bible better.”  Another one said, “It was helpful – how to better understand the Word of God and to incorporate it in our day-to-day living; the interaction was wonderful.”  There was also this following comment from one of the attendees, “It was really good and gave me hope that we can bring our lost sheep back to the ministry.”
