“Now I am excited to introduce Contextual Bible Study (CBS) to our local Christian Women’s Ministry (CWM),” was one of the comments of an attendee of the recent CBS introduction workshop at Worcester. These words are exactly what any facilitator would like to hear after presenting a workshop.
On Saturday 13 May, a group of 21 CWM members of Worcester Presbytery attended a CBS introduction workshop at URCSA Worcester East, which was facilitated by Rev. WJ McKay. It was also attended by the local minister, Rev. John Willemse and his wife.
The goal of this workshop was to inform and equip these CWM representatives how to apply CBS effectively in service of their local ministries, with the specific emphasis on leadership.
The workshop was opened by dwelling in the Word, reading from John 15 verse 1 to 7.
As the main theme was about leadership, the group focused on Exodus 18 verse 16 to 27 as guidance. “The women spontaneously participated in the group discussions and group activities,” says Rev. McKay. “The CWM representatives committed themselves to continue applying the principles of CBS during their time of personal Bible study, and especially in their congregational ministry, the CWM.”
Feedback from other attendees were comments like, “Now I understand the Bible much better,” and “I like the question-and-answer method,” and also “I like the See, Judge, and Act parts of CBS.”
