During the week of 17 June 2024 two important workshops of Congregational Witness took place at URCSA Goudini, Rawsonville.
The Missional Conversational Board (MCB) workshop
The one workshop took place on Tuesday, 18 June 2024, with the focus on the Missional Conversational Board (MCB). Rev. Stephen Pedro facilitated a training workshop with a group of senior and emeriti ministers, who will assist him with the equipment of ministers to facilitate the MTC process with their congregations and some of the ‘vacant’ congregations in their presbyteries.
These MTC trainers will focus on training the ministers to utilize the MCB, as part of the assessment phase of the MTC process, to start or to evaluate the missional transformation conversation with their congregations.
They will also equip the ministers to train some of their leaders to assist them with the Ethnographic Study, as part of the assessment phase. The Ethnographic Study will empower the ministers and their team of congregational leaders to understand the current dominant culture of their congregations, and how to transform their congregations’ culture to become in step with the mission of God (Missio Dei).

The Contextual Bible Study (CBS) Workshop
The workshop on Wednesday, 19 June 2024, focused on Contextual Bible Study (CBS). In partnership with the CBS Trainers of the Warehouse – Cape Town, a group of almost 30 ministers, elders and ministerial candidates were introduced to CBS. The workshop was structured so that it can also be an opportunity for those who have been introduced to CBS and trained to facilitate a CBS, to sharpen their facilitation skills.
Rev. Pedro also shared information that the focus for the rest of the year will be to have follow-up training to sharpen the skills of the trained CBS facilitators. He encouraged the participants to start introducing CBS to their congregations and facilitate a CBS with a focus group in their congregations to gain experience.
In the future, these leaders will be called upon to assist the ministers and church councils when they want to do a CBS workshop as part of the assessment phase of the Missional Transformation of Congregations (MTC) process.
