Support for our sister church in Mozambique

Witness Ministry has a strong ecumenical relationship with our sister church in Mozambique, the IRM (http://bit.ly/30Zl6Dc), especially with Mphatso Synod.  Therefore it was a privilege when we could supply financial support at the end of June to our faith community family in Northwest Mozambique during these very difficult times.

As in many other parts of the world, COVID-19 and the accompanying lock-down with all the devastating social-economic results also had an effect on the Mphatso Synod – congregations could not meet as usual and congregational income declined drastically. Access to the internet is also very difficult, so it aggravated effective communication even more than it is already. The current situation in Mozambique on Tuesday 7 July was: 1 023 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths.

Thanks to the donors and contributions from congregations in the Western Cape, Witness Ministry could send a once-off donation of
R2 000 each to support 29 pastors (excluding those who serve at departments) in order to help them survive.

The General Secretary of the Mphatso Synod, Dr Miguel Nobre, conveyed the appreciation and gratitude of their leadership and ministers to Witness Ministry. He also requested us to pray for them, “as we keep praying for you and your ministry at the Commission for Witness. We also pray that God will pour His Spirit towards the normalization of life worldwide.”

Three of the pastors reacted as follows: Pastor Andulu Chigongono who serves at Chimwala congregation says, “I am very thankful to God for this. It was like rain after a drought season. May God continue to bless Witness Ministry, for His honour and glory.”

Pastor Manuel Pansimpatali from Zambwe congregation witnesses, “When I learnt that Witness Ministry in SA has sent financial aid for me and my colleagues, during this lockdown period due to COVID, I could not believe it at first. It was like a dream. The aid reached me at the right time. Glory to God, who came into my rescue through the Witness Ministry in SA.

Pastor Yohane Kumadzi who serves at Mpatsa congregation says, “We thank you, all our partners, in the Name of Jesus, because of this gift. We wish you all the best.”
